British Youth Opera helps build the operatic future through an annual programme of workshops, masterclasses and a summer season of two fully staged productions providing performance experience for many of the country's most gifted young people. Although driven by educational goals, the company's artistic standards are exacting and it is for the quality and freshness of its output that the company is known amongst audiences.
Through extended and individually focused training together with performances at major venues, British Youth Opera helps hundreds of talented young singers as well as instrumentalists, conductors, repetiteurs, directors and stage managers at the start of their careers. BYO is open to candidates between 22-30 who are undergoing opera training in this country. Auditions are held in London and regional centres and over 60 people are chosen to take part in the annual summer season.
