Hand Made Opera was created to make opera accessible by touring to theatres, halls and country houses unable to accommodate large scale companies. The productions are designed to be as flexible as possible without compromising artistic integrity and are accompanied by a chamber orchestra.
The company's repertoire combines classics such as this year's production of Mozart's Marriage of Figaro sung in Italian with newly commissioned English dialogue, with modern classics such as Maxwell Davies' Eight Songs for a Mad King.
Hand Made Opera works with the Howden Festival in Yorkshire to mount an annual festival of music and drama. Hand Made Opera also runs annual advanced opera courses for singers every August in Scheggino, Umbria, Italy working with artists such as Nicoletta Conti, Vernon Mound, Andrea Capelleri and Nicholas Cleobury. The course focuses on the Italian repertoire.
We are deeply impressed with the
intelligence and energy they bring to their productions
