Independent Opera at Sadler's Wells was created in 2005 to serve as a London platform for talented young directors, singers and others involved in the staging and production of opera. Every production is the result of emerging talent from the direction, lighting and design to the cast and orchestra. The creative team is drawn from art, design and drama schools throughout London whilst the singers - many in the midst of the challenging period between college and engagement by larger companies - are mainly drawn from graduates of the National Opera Studio, the Opera Course at the Royal Academy of Music, the Benjamin Britten International Opera School at the Royal College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama Opera Course.
The company undertakes one major new production each year at the Lilian Baylis Theatre, Sadler's Wells. Apart from this core project, there are concert performances and recordings as well as occasional performances abroad.
The vocalists, players and stage staff are drawn from the ranks of emerging talent by Independent Opera, a much-needed platform for outstanding entrants to the profession. Evening Standard
