Intimate opera with a big kick.
A pioneering force in contemporary opera in Britain and with a growing international reputation, Music Theatre Wales presents its work to as wide an audience as possible.  It undertakes educational and outreach programmes in association with performances, aiming to enhance people's understanding and involvement in opera, develop professional skills and help build a vibrant future for new opera.  Productions have been broadcast on BBC Radio 3, BBC TV and recorded for CD.  In 1992 and 1997 MTW was short-listed for the Prudential Award for Opera for 'Creativity, excellence, innovation and accessibility' and has won the constant praise of audiences and critics since its creation in 1988.  In 1998 and 2000, MTW was listed in the Observer's Top 10 Classical Music Events of the Year.  Repertoire has included operas by Britten, Birtwistle, Maxwell-Davies and Stravinsky and the company has commissioned works from composers including Michael Berkely, John Woolrich and John Hardy, Nigel Osborne and Lynne Plowman.

This is one of Britain's most able and inventive touring opera companies
