NITRO, formerly known as Black Theatre Co-operative, is now in its twenty-fourth year and is Europe's oldest Black theatre company. The company is committed to encouraging, commissioning, devising and producing new music theatre by Black British writers and seeks to produce and tour dynamic and innovative work that expresses the aspirations, cultures and issues that concern Black people today.
Black music has been the single most influential cultural element in the last 100 years and has left its mark not only on other music styles but also on other art forms such as film, live art, poetry, fashion, etc. Black music has also influenced other areas of twentieth and twenty-first century life such as speech, commerce and politics.
NITRO believe that music, and Black music in particular, holds the key that unlocks the door to a new audience aged between 18-35, which currently does not choose the theatre as an option when looking for entertainment.
