opera by definition is a new opera company resident in Tunbridge Wells.  It is committed to providing accessible opera to the widest possible audience and to giving young singers the opportunity to perform major roles in fully staged productions.  It is committed to the promotion and advancement of aesthetic education in music, opera and associated arts through programmes of workshops, and pre and post performance discussions.

The company's 2002 inaugural production, Mozart's The Magic Flute, will be sung in German, with a newly commissioned English translation of the dialogue.
