Selfmade Music Theatre was formed in 1990 as a result of intensive work by Michael Christie (composer) and Susannah Self (singer/composer) with the Royal Opera House's `The Garden Venture'.
The company creates innovative music theatre using different art forms such as mime, dance, video and art installation. Its productions are deliberately small scale and very flexible. Venues have included the Brighton, Buxton and Dartington Festivals and the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith and there have been tours to Barcelona, and Syria with the British Council. The company has worked with composers such as David Bedford, Peter Wiegold, Priti Paintal, Steve McNeff, Andrew Lovett and Avril Anderson, director Richard Williams and choreographer Scott Ambler, and recently toured its latest production (Heroic Women) to Taiwan.
Selfmade have run vocal and composition workshops in Skyros (Greece), Dartington, Esalen (California) and for English Sinfonia (UK).
